History of Oceanside Marketing

The Mission San Luis Rey, also known as the "King of Missions," was founded in 1798. This mission with grand architecture is a vital part of Oceanside's cultural fabric, providing insights into early Californian history and serving as a hub for community events and educational programs.

Oceanside was incorporated in 1888, strategically timed with the land boom associated with the California Southern Railroad's arrival. Various landmarks provide Oceanside with a deep history of culture and the arts fostering a rich, multi-dimensional place to live, visit and explore.

The foundation of the Oceanside Pier in 1888 provided a pivotal development that established Oceanside as a beachfront community. During its heyday, Oceanside's beachfront hosted numerous attractions including a boardwalk, amusement rides, dance halls, and the famous Oceanside Pier. Carnival games, roller coasters, public dances and swimming competitions at one point labeled Oceanside the Coney Island of The Beach. Oceanside pier has gone through several reconstructions, the most recent in 1987, and continues to draw tourists and locals seeking sun, sand, and entertainment.

The foundation of Camp Pendleton in 1942 had a profound impact on Oceanside's demographics, economy, and community structure.

The California Surf Museum founded in 1986 offers extensive exhibits that chronicle the evolution of surfboards, highlight pivotal moments in surfing history, and showcase the lives and achievements of prominent surfers.
