America's Climatic Wonderland

History of Vista Marketing

Vista's nickname "America's Climatic Wonderland" came from the temperate midpoint between Oceanside and Escondido. The name Vista was derived from Spanish which means view. The name Vista was chosen by John A. Frazier, famous for finding the original Carlsbad Mineral Springs Hotel, applied to open the first post office in 1882 and Frazier and Buena Vista were already taken.

The city of Vista was only incorporated on January 28, 1963. Agriculture has played a key role in the development of the city of Vista.

The Deply family arrived in Vista in 1873, through the years leading up to the 20th century, the Deply's had the first phonograph, the first car and one of the earliest schools in San Diego. The Deply family were able to achieve these firsts by planting several hundred acres of grapes which became known as the Delpy corners.
