San Marcos

Valley of Discovery

San Marcos is North County's education and innovation corridor, anchored by Cal State San Marcos and Palomar College, with a fast-growing base of restaurants, breweries, healthcare, and professional services feeding off that student and family population. It's a market still taking shape, which means there's room for a business to become the recognized local name before the competition catches up. We help San Marcos businesses claim that position with strong local SEO and a brand built to grow with the city.

The local knowledge behind the work

History of San Marcos

The name San Marcos comes from los vallecitos de San Marcos, which translates to the little valleys of Saint Mark. This name was chosen to honor the day of discovery in the Catholic faith, April 25th, Saint Mark’s day when the Spaniards came across a fertile valley in 1797.

San Marcos has only been incorporated for six decades. The date of incorporation for San Marcos is January 28th, 1963. Many San Diegans are familiar with the lighted cross on the hills above Lake San Marcos. This cross that is lit up with lights at night time started as a communications tower that was only lit with lights during Christmas season.

An influential company in the history of San Marcos is undoubtedly Hollandia Dairy. San Marcos even has Hollandia Park, named for this pillar of the community.

Palomar College is one of the bigger chapters in the San Marcos story. At 252 acres, it’s among the largest public community colleges in the U.S. by both land area and enrollment, and it’s a major part of the educational and cultural life of North San Diego County.
